Treatise&Résumé.
A picture of me.Anything – any advertisement, website, or product – can be designed or redesigned to either better suit its function or to make it more visually attractive. That is the simple ideology of a designer.
My name is Cody Schatzle. I am a 20 year old graphic designer of Lindenhurst, Long Island. I have personal and commercial experience with a myriad of different design tools and web languages.
Regardless of whether or not I believe it to actually be true, I refuse to say anything to the effect of "I am a passionate / enthusiastic / earnest designer" out of fear of dry heaving my dignity onto my keyboard. What I can say with confidence is that I'm extremely interested in design, I enjoy the simple pleasure of making something look damn good, and it's something I think I'm skilled at.
All web material I create is W3C compliant, and all of my work is infused with my boyish, rugged charm and brilliant, piercing wit. Also with modesty.

Specialty
Graphic Designer: Cornerstone Services – New Paltz, NY
[ August 2007 » Present ]
Cornerstone is a Bulk Mailhouse/Data Management House/Design Firm. We design and mail print material for clients and manage and organize their data with Dataconsulate, a database management program we built ourselves. We also design websites for clients who ask nicely. It is my responsibility to design and/or program a project to completion. I produce imaginative designs quickly and efficiently to meet the clients needs as well as to fit the standards of quality and speed set by the company. I'm nearly finished with the new company website, hand-coded from scratch, and I'm working on a new DataConsulate website.
Graphic Designer: The Greystone Project – Poughkeepsie, NY
[ February 2007 » April 2008 ]
The Greystone Project is a full-service shop. From print/collateral design, to broadcast creative, to sponsorship management, Greystone covers the entire design spectrum. I initially worked at Greystone as an intern and, I assume because of my infinite amount of diligence, worksmanship and my anything-but-overconfident attitude, got a paid job within 2 weeks. Then I worked as an out-of-house vendor, picking up projects when needed. It was my job to create web and print materials for commercial businesses and communicate directly with those businesses, tactfully convincing them why an idea I have is better than something they had in mind or, on the flip side, woefully conceding to their wishes.
Junior Graphic Designer: VOX Design – Stone Ridge, NY
[ February 2007 » Present ]
Working out-of-house for my (now former) Creative Director from Greystone, I do volunteer design work when the load is too heavy. I personally organized and grouped the entire library of over 11,000+ fonts in the VOX database into specified categories, and I do small-to-medium sized projects when needed.
Sideline
Projectionist: New Paltz Cinema – New Paltz, NY
[ August 2005 » July 2006 ]
Having to thread and start films – a process that, per film, takes approximately 2.5 minutes, and given the fact that in this small cinema there were but 4 theaters – I did about 10 minutes of actual work every 2 to 3 hours. Not extremely grueling work, but certainly interesting. On the plus side, I've seen Casino Royale 11 times. On the down side, I've seen Battlefield Earth once.
Manager: McDonalds Restaurant – Lindenhurst, NY & New Paltz, NY
[ September 2002 » November 2007 ]
As my resident "This job was backbreaking, fatiguing, torturous, punishing, demanding, and every synonym of 'harsh' that has ever existed, but it taught me good ethic and the value of a dollar" job, I can only say that working at McDonalds, despite any kind of dislike for fast food in general that I may (do) have, was possibly the most beneficial and progressively positive influence on my life, ever.
Savvy

I make it a point to be well versed in the programs I purport to know. I'm an expert in XHTML and CSS, I have a strong focus on web standards, and I have a basic knowledge of Javascript, PHP, ASP, and XML. I'm quite savvy with the entirety of Adobe's products, specifically Photoshop, Illustrator, InDesign, Flash, and Dreamweaver. Just in case it's not assumed, I also know the Microsoft Office programs like the back of my hand.
